Relackout

Backup and export

Export and import a workspace as a single file, back up the whole app as one ZIP, and learn exactly what restoring from a backup does.

If you want to move a venue to another computer, or keep a regular backup before a show, Relackout gives you two separate paths: export a single workspace as a file, or back up the entire application as one ZIP. This guide walks through both with the Demo Venue workspace, and also explains what Restore from backup does — keep in mind that it restarts the application.

Export a workspace as a single file

  1. Click the workspace name (Demo Venue) in the bottom bar.

Demo Venue button in the bottom bar clicked; the menu lists Demo Venue (active), Studio B, + New workspace and Manage workspaces
  2. Click Manage workspaces in the menu.

Workspaces screen: the active Demo Venue card with 9 patches and 1 universe used, next to the Studio B card
  3. Click the actions icon (three dots) on the Demo Venue card.

Demo Venue card's open actions menu: Rename / color, Duplicate, Copy…, Export
  4. Click Export in the menu.

Green status line at the top of the screen: Workspace exported

The resulting file carries a .relackout-workspace extension; you can rename it however you like, but the extension needs to stay. It only carries this workspace’s patches, scenes, cues, mixer and connection settings; any audio tracks it actually uses are copied in too, but unused files sitting in the shared audio pool are not included — a different scope from the full backup you’ll see next.

Import a workspace from a file

  1. Click Import at the top of the Workspaces screen and pick the file you just exported.

New Demo Venue (2) card next to the Demo Venue and Studio B cards, status line reading Demo Venue (2) imported with 9 patches, and a prompt asking whether to open Demo Venue (2) now

Importing doesn’t touch your existing workspaces — Demo Venue and Studio B stay as they were, and a new card named “Demo Venue (2)” is added to the list. Connection settings from the file (Art-Net universe selection, remote access PIN and so on) come along too; if you moved to a different machine, it’s good practice to check them. You don’t have to click Switch now on the “Open Demo Venue (2) now?” prompt right away — you can always switch to the workspace later with Open in its own card menu.

Full backup: everything in one ZIP

  1. Click the back arrow, then click Settings; the General Settings screen opens.

Top of the General Settings screen
  2. Scroll down to the Backup & Maintenance heading near the bottom of the page.

Backup & Maintenance section: Create full backup, Restore from backup and Factory reset rows
  3. Click Create full backup.

Success line: Backup saved, with the file path

Includes all workspaces, shared audio and settings in a single ZIP file. That’s a different scope from a workspace export: a full backup also adds the entire shared audio pool (used or not) and the global application settings. Copying this ZIP to an external drive or a cloud folder on a regular schedule means you won’t have to start from scratch if something goes wrong at the venue.

Restoring from a backup

  1. Click Restore from backup.

Confirmation dialog open: warning text, Cancel and Confirm buttons

What’s next

The same section also has Factory reset: it deletes all workspaces and returns to one empty Default workspace. It can’t be undone and asks for a two-step confirmation; always take a full backup before using it.
