Relackout

Mixer Designer

Build a touchscreen control panel from scratch: a solo group, flash and cue buttons, scene/cue/master faders — then save it and use it live.

In Relackout, every control panel is called a layout, and each one gets its own row in the Layouts list — if you already have one (like Main Panel), that’s fine, it stays untouched. This guide builds a second layout from scratch: a solo group of scene buttons, a flash button, a cue button, and scene/cue/master faders — then shows you how to save it, use it live, and open it full screen on a touchscreen.

Open the Designer and create a new layout

  1. Click the Designer card on the home screen.

Mixer Layout Editor screen; the Layouts list on the left shows Main Panel, no layout selected yet.
  2. Click New layout. The Layouts list on the left collapses and the component palette opens in its place.

A blank 800 × 500 canvas opens; on the left the Layouts list has collapsed and the component palette is showing; the name box in the top bar holds an auto-generated time-based name.
  3. Clear the name box in the top bar and type “Club Panel”.

The name box in the top bar reads Club Panel.

The component palette

The palette on the left holds everything you can put on a panel: Button and Fader are the basic pieces; a Knob is a rotary control; a Joystick drives the pan and tilt of moving heads; a Color picker colors RGB lights. The Player handles music, the Clock shows time, and Sound Reactive and Show Timeline bring Sound-to-light and the Show timeline onto the panel. A Label adds a heading; Group and Tab hold other items inside a frame; Notes shows a note document. You can drag a component onto the canvas, or click its name in the Or click to add: list below the palette — we’ll use the second way throughout this guide.

Build a solo group

  1. Click Group in the list; move it to the canvas’s top-left corner and enlarge it from its bottom-right handle.

An empty, wide Group frame in the top-left of the canvas, selected.
  2. In the Properties panel, type “Looks” into Group name; check Solo mode (only one button in the group can be active).

Properties panel with Group name set to Looks and the Solo mode checkbox checked.
  1. Click Button in the list; drag it into the group; resize it from its bottom-right handle so it fits neatly inside.

Button inside the group; the Properties panel's Container field reads Looks.
  2. Pick “Warm White” from the Scene list (Button action is already “Scene”); type “Warm White” into Button text; set Text size to Large.

Properties panel: Scene Warm White, Button text Warm White, Text size Large.

Copy and paste matching buttons

  1. Select the “Warm White” button with a small drag (a plain click would remove it from the group), copy it with Cmd/Ctrl+C, paste it with Cmd/Ctrl+V; move the copy into the group, to the right of Warm White, set Scene to “Blue Night”, and change Button text to match. Select that button again with a small drag and paste once more with Cmd/Ctrl+V; move the copy to the right of Blue Night, set Scene to “Blackout”, and change Button text to match.

Three buttons side by side in the group: Warm White, Blue Night, Blackout, all the same size.

Add a flash button and a cue button

  1. Paste one more copy (Cmd/Ctrl+V); drag it out of the group, below it (the Container field becomes — No container —); set Scene to “Red Pulse”, type “Hit” into Button text; set Button type to Flash (hold); click the Color swatch and pick red.

Hit button outside the group, colored red; Container reads No container, Button type reads Flash (hold).
  2. Select the “Hit” button with a small drag, paste with Cmd/Ctrl+V; move the copy next to Hit; set Button action to Cue List, pick “Intro Loop” from Cue list; leave Button type on Toggle (on/off); change the button text to match.

Two buttons side by side outside the group: red Hit and Intro Loop in the default color.

Add scene, cue, and master faders

  1. Click Label in the list; move it to the canvas’s top-right, widen it; type “Levels” into Text.

A Levels heading in the top-right of the canvas.
  2. Click Fader in the list; move it under the Levels heading, stretch it taller; set Fader type to SCENE, pick “Blue Night” from the SCENE list that appears; type the same name into Fader label.

A Blue Night fader under the Levels heading; a yellow warning triangle appears on both this fader and the Blue Night button.
  3. Add another Fader; move it next to the first, stretch it taller; set Fader type to CUE, pick “Dance Chase” from the Cue list list that appears; type the same name into Fader label.

A second fader, Dance Chase, next to the first.
  4. Add a third Fader; move it to the far right, stretch it taller; set Fader type to MASTER.

A third fader, MASTER, on the far right; in the Properties panel Fader type reads MASTER and the Container field is locked to No container.

Save and use it in Live

  1. Click an empty spot on the canvas (clears the selection); click Save in the top bar.

The whole panel: a solo group with three buttons top-left, Hit and Intro Loop below it, a Levels heading and three faders on the right; nothing selected, Save highlighted.
  2. Click Use in Live in the top bar.

Live Control screen open; the layout picker shows Club Panel, nothing pressed yet.

Try it live

  1. Click the “Warm White” button, then click the “Blue Night” button.

Blue Night is lit, Warm White is off; Blue Night's SCENE fader has also risen.

Full screen on a touchscreen

  1. Click the Full screen button, the four-corner icon to the left of the layout picker. The Relackout window switches to your operating system’s full screen; the top bar and the bottom bar stay in place. To switch back, click the same button, now Exit full screen.

The full screen button is highlighted and its icon now means Exit full screen; the panel, the top bar and the bottom bar are unchanged.

What’s next

You’ve now built a layout: a solo group with scene buttons inside it, a flash button and a cue button next to it, and scene, cue, and master faders on the right. You saved it and used it live. Next up: remote control from your phone or tablet — you’ll open this same panel from another device.
